toss the coin referee

Postby admin » Wed Nov 14, 2018 7:02 pm

A Football referee called David McNamara has been banned for three weeks after he asked the captains of two teams to play rock, paper, scissors as a means of deciding who would kick-off in the Manchester City v Reading game in the Women’s Super League match.

The match played on 26 October 26 saw England captain Steph Houghton and Kirsty Pearce caught up in what has become big news.

Refereee McNamara apparently left his trusty coin in the dressing room and then made the call on the pitch for the two captains to play a quick game of rock, paper, scissors to work-out which of the two teams would take the kick-off. Onecn only assume that nobody at the ground had a coin in their pocket to loan to the referee.

A FA spokesman is quoted as saying “The FA can confirm that referee David McNamara has been suspended for 21 days, starting from Monday 26 November, after accepting a charge of ‘not acting in the best interests of the game’.

“This follows an incident in the FA WSL match between Manchester City and Reading on Friday 26th October when he failed to determine which team would kick off the match by the toss of a coin, as required by the Laws of the game.”

Question is whether Referee McNamara will appeal his suspension by the FA.

Maybe he will toss a coin to decide :D
