In the upcoming months, the Brazilian National Team’s Center for Research and Analysis (CPA) will be assisted by 19 Série A national football clubs in observing potential opponents of Brazil at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

Developed by the CPA Coordinator, Fernando Lázaro, the project aims to broaden observations already undertaken by analysts of the Brazilian National Team’s technical staff.

– Even more than supporting the National Team’s technical staff, the professional in charge of each potential opponent will be able to submit new opinions and observations, which will enhance the analysis and debate concerning our strategies – explained Lazáro.

Of the 32 teams participating in the World Cup, 27 will be analyzed. Nevertheless, teams that reached the Finals through South American Qualifiers, thereby having recently played against the Brazilian National Team, will not comprise the list.

Following the approval of the concept by the technical staff, the National Teams’ Coordinator, Edu Gaspar, contacted the clubs, detailed the project and requested the participation of departments accountable for assessing potential opponents.

A draw, which was recorded and made available to all clubs, was held at CBF’s headquarters to define responsibilities pertaining to each department. (The results are listed below).

Partnership with CBF Academy

Aimed at including students in the project, the CBF Academy picked 27 attendees of the performance analysis program to assist the clubs in this endeavor.

– The idea is for students to assist clubs' performance analysis departments by drawing up reports and, obviously, their opinion will be very important for our project – concluded Lázaro.
