Reported Colorado Rapids target Anthony Hudson resigns as New Zealand coach

Postby admin » Sat Nov 25, 2017 12:06 am

The Colorado Rapids coaching search could be drawing toward a long-expected close, as Anthony Hudson resigned his post as New Zealand head coach Wednesday.

“I’ve enjoyed every second, it’s been a pleasure and an honour to work with this team and to truly experience what it means to be a proud Kiwi,” said Hudson.

The release states Hudson is in "final stages of his contract negotiations for his next move." As noted by the Associated Press, Hudson has been linked with the Rapids, and only two weeks ago, interim GM Paidrag Smith told the Denver Post the Rapids had tabbed the individual "that we want to take us forward" and teased a forthcoming announcement.

New Zealand Football was effusive in its praise of Hudson's three years, which included an record-setting appearance at the FIFA Confederations Cup (Youngest Coach: 35 years old) and a 9-7-11 record that was unblemished in Oceania competition.

"Anthony has been one of the finest coaches New Zealand Football has ever had," said Chief Executive Andy Martin. "For the first time in history this year we were able to name a fully professional squad and that is testament to the work Anthony has done. He has turned our team into a side which is capable of beating the world’s best."
