The Vancouver Whitecaps announced on Friday that they’ve signed midfielder David Norman Jr. as a Homegrown player.
"David is a good player and has what every young player should have, and that's an unbelievable attitude," Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said in a statement released by the club. "He comes to work every day, he's hungry, he wants to learn and he wants to get better. As his body grows he will get an understanding of how to use what he's good at. The hard work starts now for him. He deserves his chance and he'll come into preseason to fight for his spot."
Norman Jr., 19, joined the Whitecaps at the age of 9, eventually moving up through their residency academy teams. He spent one year at Oregon State in 2016 before signing with Whitecaps FC 2 in USL this year. He started 25 of 26 appearances in USL, earning Whitecaps FC 2 Player of the Year honor after leading the squad in assists, chances created and duels won.
The son of former Vancouver player and Canadian international David Norman, the second-generation Whitecap has represented Canada at the U-15 and U-17 levels.
