Atlanta United have bolstered their goalkeeping ranks by announcing the signing of Mitch Hildebrandt on Friday.

The 29-year-old joins Atlanta from FC Cincinnati, where he was named USL Goalkeeper of the Year in 2016 and helped lead the team to the 2017 U.S. Open Cup semifinal, a run which included wins over Columbus Crew SC and Chicago Fire.

“Over the last two years, Mitch has done very well at the USL level and he has earned an opportunity to play in MLS,” said Atlanta United vice president and technical director Carlos Bocanegra in a team statement. “We are pleased to add him to our roster and confident in his ability to add to the overall quality of our goalkeeper contingent.”

The Michigan native, who played collegiate soccer at Oakland University, began his professional career with the Minnesota Stars, a prior incarnation of Minnesota United FC, in 2012, staying there through 2015 before joining Cincinnati ahead of their inaugural season.

Brad Guzan, who joined Atlanta United midseason from the English Premier League, is expected to remain the starter for the Five Stripes.
