Report: "Peripheral figures" trying to steer Iker Casillas to Chicago Fire

Postby admin » Tue Dec 26, 2017 12:33 am

Journalist Jeff Rueter reported on Thursday that the Fire are in negotiations with Casillas, with the club aiming to sign the Spanish legend to a non-Designated Player deal. Legendary Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas may be set to leave FC Porto this winter in a move that could take him to the Chicago Fire, according to a tweet from the Washington Post.

The 36-year-old Casillas is in his third season with Porto after a first-team career with Real Madrid that lasted more than a decade.

If he did come to Chicago, he would perhaps be the most decorated player in MLS history. Casillas has won a World Cup and two European Championships with Spain, and three UEFA Champions League trophies and five La Liga titles with Madrid.

The Fire brought another former World Cup Winner to Toyota Park this season in former Manchester Untied and German star Bastian Schweinsteiger. The German star is currently out of contract with the club.
