Montréal wins Gladys Bean Trophy as U Sports champions

Université Montréal won their first national title at the 2017 U Sports women's soccer championship in Winnipeg. The Montréal Carabins won 1:0 over Cape Breton University in the Sunday 12 November championship final.

Catherine Proulx of Chambly, QC scored the lone goal of the championship final shortly before the half-time break. Proulx collected a rebound and fired a hard shot into the net. Goalkeeper Claudia Dubé-Trempe posted the clean sheet while Proulx was her team's player of the match.

Montréal have now won nine medals in the past 14 years, including silver medals in 2009, 2011, and 2013. The five-time provincial champions were RSEQ runners up in 2017 before winning the national title in Winnipeg.

In the championship final, Montréal's starting XI featured Claudia Dubé-Trempe (goal), Mélissa Gougeon, Catherine Proulx, Megane Sauvé, Maude Leclerc, Karine Lafontaine, Leila Boudjelal, Maude Leblanc, Marie-Eve bernard, Emmanuelle Alcindor, and Mélissa Proulx. Coach Kevin McConnell featured Chloe Villeneuve, Rose-Marie Julien, Charlotte Boisclair, and Jessica Mercier as substitutes. Carole Delmaire dressed but did not feature.

Michelle Pye served as the referee. The match was played in front of 150 fans at the University of Manitoba.
