The Matildas have qualified for the 2019 World Cup following a strong performance in the qualifying rounds of the 2018 Asian Cup in Jordan.

The Asian Cup doubles as qualifiers for next year’s FIFA World Cup in France, with the top five nations making it to the 2019 tournament.

The Matildas held arch-rivals Japan to a 1-1 draw in the final group match at the Amman International Stadium following a decisive 8-0 victory over Vietnam. The team also had a draw against South Korea in the opening game of the tournament.
