New soccer team for Queens in New York

A new soccer team based in Queens in New York is continuing their preparations for the 2021 season when the new franchise will join the USL Championship with David Villa the main face of the club.

The Spanish star is returning to Queens having previously played for 4 years with New York City before joining Vissel Kobe in Japan.

The new club will be called Queensboro FC and will begin playing in 12 months time in the top tier of American soccer's lower division in the USL Championship.

David Villa and Jonathan Krane were awarded the new soccer franchise late last year and will host home matches in a new stadium at York College in Queens.

The team will also play some games at the Citi Field which is a baseball park located in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in New York City and the home field of Major League Baseball team the New York Mets.
