U's smash the 5,000 barrier for first time at the Kassam
Oxford United are all set for the new campaign with season ticket sales smashing the 5,000 mark for the first time at Grenoble Road including 200 spaces in 20 executive boxes.
And the club is calling on supporters to join season ticket holders for the Sky Bet L1 curtain raiser against Chesterfield United on August 6th to pack out the stadium and witness history in the making.
This season will be the first that the U’s have kicked off in the third tier of English football this century.
More than 5,000 fans have guaranteed their place for every game but we want as many supporters as possible here for the first game to celebrate the club being back in L1 and to roar on the team.
Managing Director, Greig Box Turnbull, said:
“Breaking the 5,000 season ticket sale barrier is magnificent from the Yellow Army and there should be a fantastic atmosphere for the first game as we get the season underway. Michael has assembled a new-look squad but we will be playing the same bright, attacking football that the fans expect and demand here and everything is almost set for the big kick off.
“It would be wonderful to get a big crowd for the opening game, to really show we mean business and to carry on where we left off in May. I’d encourage as many fans as possible to buy a match-ticket and come and be part of a special day in the club’s history, as we compete in L1 for the first time at the stadium.”
The 5,000 figure was broken by a bulk order of tickets by the Supporters’ Trust, Oxvox, following its ‘One of our Own’ campaign, which will see more than 60 children in the county’s care system, come to matches with their carers.
Greig added:
“It’s another great example of the togetherness at the club right now. Oxvox asked supporters to help some of the most vulnerable children in the county and the response has been overwhelming. We look forward to seeing them at the Chesterfield game and we thank every single fan who has made that possible. I’m sure this project will go from strength to strength.”
