Tim Cahill's has accepted an official ambassador role for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Cahill has been appointed into the 'Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy' for the coming World Cup and will work in association with Samuel Eto'o, Xavi and Cafu in his role.

Tim Cahill in accepting his role as World Cup Ambassador said:

"I think joining was a natural progression for me. The facilities, the development, my relationship with the national team. It's a pleasure to be a part of it and to share their story is pretty special," Cahill said.

"Football is getting back to this region.

"With Qatar is so many opportunities with the legacy program.

"You can talk about really important programs that can make a change to help people understand what an ambassador's role [is] and the impact we can have with our profile.

"My passion shines through in this element, just as much as the football element, because Qatar reaches the world with the funding they give for programs and charities and I think that's really powerful in sharing their knowledge and wealth with other countries and help them to become better."
