Loyal fans of the former Bury FC League 1 team has applied as Bury AFC to join the tenth tier of football in the UK.
The newly-formed club submitted their application to the North West Counties Football League with plans to join next season.
It is seen by many in Bury as the only way to ensure that football continues in the close-knit community.
It comes months after the historic English football club were expelled from League 1 after failing to convince the AFL of their financial stability.
EFL clubs also rejected application for a place in League Two for next season.
The new group is known as Bury Phoenix and have no links to the previous owner Steve Dale.
